Peterhansel reveals language fears with new co-driver

This week I read an article about the Dakar Rally participant's fear of not being able to communicate with his co-driver. Stephane Peterhansel is a French biker and racing driver.  Towards the end of preparations for the start, his partner and wife at the same time, Andrea, was not allowed to take part in the trial due to health reasons. Everything happened at short notice. At the last minute, Peterhansel was assigned another driver, the Portuguese Paulo Fiuza. The Frenchman wondered how drivers would be able to communicate when none of them were fluent in English. 

Clear communication is important and necessary for cooperation to ensure safety and smooth passage.

It was a novelty for the him.  Since he switched from motorcycle to car in 1999, he has always been with french native speaker.  He completed nineteen editions with Jean-Paul Cottret.  Peterhansel did not hide his concerns about communicating in English.

“Now we need to speak in English, and my English is not really good. His English is not the best also. So it’s not really easy.” -said Stephane.

Finally, the drivers finished the rally in 3rd place, despite difficulties with communication.

The new situation did not prevent the racing veteran from reaching the podium.

It was very pleasant to read this article, the experienced driver nevertheless won the third place.  It was also a great opportunity for a less experienced player to get new tips.
